SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES CAR VERSE BICYCLE PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENT

Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on this date at approximately 3:27pm, Columbia County 911 dispatched Sheriff’s Deputies to a car verse bicycle accident on County Route 28, just northwest of State Farm Road in the Town of Kinderhook.

Deputies found that a 2007 Hyundai Azera, operated by 45 year old Leah Tricozzi of Valatie NY, was traveling in a northwest direction on County Route 28 and for unknown reasons struck a bicyclist that was also traveling northwest in front of her. The bicyclist, 68 year old Donald J. Wilber of Chatham, was ejected from the bicycle. Wilber was taken by Greenport Rescue to Niverville Station One, where he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for serious injuries. Tricozzi was not injured in the accident and she was the sole occupant in the vehicle.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Greenport Rescue Squad, Niverville Fire Company, and New York State Police all assisted at the scene. Valatie Fire Department set up the landing zone at Niverville Station One.

The road was closed for approximately 2 hours during the investigation.

Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office are Lieutenant Wayne Lopez, Sr. Investigator Kevin Skype, Investigator Reagan Anderson and Deputy Kris Bauhoff.
