James D. Coughlin, 74, of North Haven, CT formerly of Wingdale, NY, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at his home. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to Ellen Nesselt Coughlin. James was born in New York City on July 23, 1941; son of the late Michael and Lucy Egan Coughlin. He served in the National Guard; was a New York City Police Officer for 17 years and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Newburgh, NY until retiring as a Mail Processor in 2007. James was an avid fan of the NY Giants, the NY Yankees and UCONN Girls’ basketball. Father of James (Theresa) Coughlin, Brian (Angela) Coughlin and Mary-Beth Coughlin. Grandfather of Sean, Joshua, Charlie, Bianca and Catie. Brother of Kieran (Arlene) Coughlin and the late Anna “Nancy” Brown, Michael, Thomas and Billy Owen Coughlin. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT on Sunday, August 2nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 3rd at 1:00 pm in the Our Lady of Peace Chapel of Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY. Interment will immediately follow the mass in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
