Putnam Valley Man Charged With Assault

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Putnam Valley man on a charge of assault.

On July 9, 2015 at 5:19 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Joseph Diaz responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 49 Becker Street in the Town of Putnam Valley. The deputy determined that Robert J. Tyra, 64, of that address had punched his wife in the chest during a dispute and then pushed her, causing the victim to sustain an injury. The deputy arrested Mr. Tyra and charged him with Assault in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the PCSD Nelsonville Substation and subsequently arraigned before Town of Putnam Valley Justice Louis DiCarlo. The defendant was released in his own recognizance pending an August 6, 2015 court appearance.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
