PRESS RELEASE

State Police from SP Monroe investigated a serious motor vehicle accident on State Route 17 eastbound near exit 124 in the Town of Goshen. The accident occurred at 11:45 p.m. Initial investigation revealed that a minivan on the right side of the road was stopped on the shoulder for unknown reasons. A male operator and female passenger were out of the vehicle standing by the driver side of the vehicle when they were struck by a 2013 Honda. The female passenger was thrown approximately 100 feet. The vehicle subsequently veers into the center lane of State Route 17 eastbound and stops after the accident. The vehicle then attempts to back up off of the highway when it is subsequently struck by a Mobile Life ambulance transporting a patient in the center lane. The operator and passenger of the first vehicle struck were flown to Westchester Medical Center and were listed in serious critical condition. The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and the Forensics Investigation Unit (FIU) both responded to the scene.
