Longtime Pawling Jean Clark passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5th at home. Jean was 83 years old and succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease after a lengthy and valiant battle.

Jean was born in Poughkeespie, NY on June 6th, 1932 to James Louis and Irene Fitzpatrick Clark and raised in Pawling, NY. Jean graduated from Pawling High School, class of 1950. She attended SUNY New Paltz and Oneonta where she received a B.S. in Elementary Education.

Jean taught for over 30 years in the Pawling Central School district and was passionate and driven to ensure each child reached their full potential. Jean thoroughly enjoyed camping and spent many summers traveling and enjoying the outdoors. Jean also enjoyed painting ceramics and the family has many of her works of art to enjoy.

Jean is survived by four nieces and nephews, Karen Cima and her husband John of Batavia, NY and their children Caitlin and Allison. Jim Utter and his wife Beth of Poughkeepsie, NY and their children Cameron, Nicole Brandt and Shane Brandt. Charles Utter and his wife Jennifer of Upton, MA and their children Lucas and Jordan. Anne Marie Pruzan and her husband Dan of Redwood City, CA. Jean had many friends and relatives in Pawling. Her parents James Louis Clark and Irene Fitzpatrick Clark, a sister Margaret “Peggy” Utter and a brother, Thomas Clark, predeceased Jean.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pawling, NY on Wednesday, July 22nd at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Pawling. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements under the direction of the Horn & Thomes Funeral Home, Inc., 83 E. Main St., Pawling.
