The Moviehouse, Millerton Announces
New Membership Program

MILLERTON, NY—The Moviehouse kicks off a new membership initiative this summer that will enable audiences to support the quality programs and the community they love while also saving money and supporting local commerce.

Two membership levels are available, each with special benefits that provide discounts on movie tickets, invitations to special events and discounts at local shops and restaurants through an innovative new discount program – Shop Local! It’s Personal!” The program is designed to enliven Millerton’s business district by encouraging visitors to linger in the village to shop or dine before or after their movie experience.

Members will also enjoy reciprocal membership discounts through the Art House Visiting Members Program, which will allow members of The’M’ to visit more than fifty member art house theaters throughout the U.S. and see regularly-scheduled films for the participating theater’s basic member discount.

With member support, The’M’ will be able to continue to provide, and expand, its quality programing of independent film, cultural events, art exhibits, specialty screenings and community discussions, as well as reinforce important partnerships with other local organizations.

Moviehouse owners, Robert & Carol Sadlon, are hopeful that this initiative will provide members of The’M’ with a feeling of investment in, and ownership of, what goes on in their community. This feeling, coupled with the enthusiastic collaboration of local business owners in the discount program, provides an important first step in positioning Millerton as an Arts and cultural hub, and social destination point for the region.

In addition to first-run and independent movies, documentaries, and quarterly art exhibits in its gallery space, The’M’ currently offers the following specialty programming both live-streamed and captured live in HD:

  • The Metropolitan Opera Season from New York’s Lincoln Center
  • The Bolshoi Ballet Season from Moscow & St. Petersburg, Russia
  • National Theatre LIVE productions from theatres in the UK
  • The Royal Shakespeare Company LIVE:  The RSC’s summer season of plays from Stratford-Upon Avon, UK
  • Exhibition: Great Art on Screen – a Fathom Events series of documentaries from the world’s great Museums and art galleries
  • The New York Film Critics Series: A series of movie premieres that feature Q&A with the films’ writers, directors and stars, live-streamed from Manhattan.
  • ShutterDocs: A film series devoted to the art of photography and the promotion of the visual image.
  • FilmWorks Forum: A non-profit community service presenting interesting and inspiring independent and significant documentaries that address both local and global concerns, and encourage active and impassioned community dialogue.
A full list of participating local businesses is included below. This list is growing every day, so please be sure to check The Moviehouse website for the most up-to-date information before going to press.
