Obituary, Giovanna Pistolesi

 

 

BEEKMAN – Giovanna Pistolesi, 95, died peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the home of her granddaughter, Joann Mazzocchi Fleitz with whom she lived for the last 19 years.

Born in Italy on February 14, 1920, she was the daughter of Luigi and Bianca Raponi Cacciotti. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1957 and they resided in New Rochelle for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction and she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

On October 29, 1938 in Montelanico, Rome, Italy, Giovanna married Renato Pistolesi who predeceased her on June 28, 2006. She is survived by her children, Giulio Pistolesi and his wife Anna of Fishkill, Giovanni Pistolesi of New Rochelle, and Silvana Mazzocchi of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, Renato, Giulianna, Madeline, Johnny Jr., Joann and Michael; her brothers, Fabio and Guido Cacciotti; 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sons-in-law, John Mazzocchi and Lenny Maiuolo; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Pistolesi; her three sisters and a brother.

Giovanna will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. They would like to thank Hudson Valley Hospice, Nursing Home Transition and Diversion Waiver, and especially all of the aides who assisted with Giovanna’s care so that she could remain in her home.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-8pm at  895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
