Copper Theft – Burglary Ring Caught

On May 28, 2015 The New York State Police and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested three Columbia County residents in regards to an extensive and ongoing Burglary investigation.

Over the past several weeks both agencies investigated numerous burglaries.  The Burglaries involved the larceny of copper piping from numerous buildings advertised for sale and/or foreclosure, and appeared abandoned.

In conjunction with the Columbia County DA office, Troop K State Police and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office commenced a Joint Task Force investigation.

On May 28 the suspects were apprehended and arrested.  They are identified as 36 year old Floyd L. Dallas IV of Philmont, NY, 25 year old Dwight D. Dottin of Stockport, NY, and 24 year old Matthew E. Kelly of Niverville, NY.

They were all charged with one count each of Burglary 3rd degree,  a Class D Felony.  The suspects were arraigned in the Town of Livingston Court in front of Hon. Judge Robert Q. Moore.  They were remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.

The arrest of the above individuals are attributed to the coordinated efforts of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.

State Police are reminding all homeowners to be aware of suspicious activity, keep an eye on neighbors’ properties and maintain safe and secure properties.  Residents should contact the State Police at 518-851-3111 with any information regarding this investigation or any suspicious activity in your community.
