State Police investigate shooting incident involving police officer

Shortly after Midnight on Friday May 29, 2015, the City of Kingston Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at the Chase Bank in the Kingston Plaza. A subject was observed fleeing the rear of the building and was stopped by a City of Kingston police officer. The subject subsequently identified as Alex Jeffries, age 18 of Kingston, NY, displayed a weapon and the officer fired one round striking Jeffries in the abdomen. Jeffries was taken into custody at that time and ultimately transported to Albany Medical Center for surgery.  The injury is not expected to be life threatening.

The City of Kingston Police Department and Ulster County District Attorney’s Office requested the New York State Police to conduct the subsequent investigation. Investigators and members of the Troop F Forensic Investigation Unit responded, conducted interviews and processed the scene.
