Mount Vernon man arrested for possessing stolen vehicle

PRESS RELEASE
Yonkers, New York – On May 23, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Hawthorne barracks arrested George B. Smith, 25 years old, of Mount Vernon, New York, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony.

Troopers patrolling the Sprain Brook Parkway in the area of mile post marker 3.4, observed a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the Parkway and a male throwing items into a wooded area.  Investigation revealed that on May 19, 2015, the 1998 Honda Civic, which was operated by Smith, was reported stolen in New Rochelle.  Smith was observed disposing of the registered owner’s personal items from vehicle.

The State Police were assisted by the New Rochelle Police Department.

Smith was arraigned in the City of Yonkers Court and remanded to the Westchester County jail without bail.  He is scheduled to re-appear in Yonkers Court on June 2, 2015.
