Troy man charged with Grand Larceny following fraud investigation

Kinderhook, New York – On April 10, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Livingston barracks arrested Michael McKeon, 48 years old, of Troy, New York, for Grand Larceny 4th Degree and Falsifying Business Records 1st Degree, both Class E Felonies.

In October of 2014, Troopers were contacted by an employee from Safe Home Security Systems who reported that an ex-employee had stolen over $3,000 from a Kinderhook man.

Following a lengthy investigation, it was discovered that in the summer of 2013, McKeon had contacted an elderly Kinderhook man and claimed to be an employee of Safe Home Security Systems. He collected over $3,000 from the homeowner to install new home security equipment and to renew his contract with the company. The victim did received new home security equipment, but the home was never monitored by Safe Home Security Systems. Safe Home Security Systems told police that McKeon had not been employed by them since 2006 and that their company was not aware of the fraudulent transaction.

With the assistance of Troop G Bureau of Criminal Investigation, McKeon was located in Troy, New York, and taken into custody.

McKeon was given appearance tickets directing him to appear before the Village of Kinderhook Court on April 20, 2015.
