Hopewell Junction man charged with welfare fraud

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Ahmad A. Khatib, age 32 of Hopewell Junction, for welfare fraud stemming from a recent investigation.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division, in conjunction with the Investigations Division of the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services, has revealed that Mr. Khatib illegally obtained over $20,000 in Medicaid benefits between January 2014 and January 2017 by allegedly concealing the fact that he was receiving other unreported income.

Mr. Khatib was arrested on 3/21/19 and charged with Welfare Fraud 3rd degree, which is a Class D Felony. After being processed he was arraigned at the City of Poughkeepsie Court and released to reappear on 4/4/19 at 9:00 am.

As with any criminal case, the charge described above is merely an accusation and Mr. Khatib is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
