Serious car-pedestrian crash in Pleasant Valley

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a serious car-pedestrian crash which occurred on State Route 44 near Clark Heights in the Town of Pleasant Valley at approximately 5:10 pm on 3/20/19.

An investigation has revealed that a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country operated by William Plaza (age 36 of Wappingers Falls) and occupied by Kataura Ross (age 25 of Poughkeepsie) was traveling westbound on Route 44 when it struck a 13-year-old pedestrian from Pleasant Valley. The pedestrian suffered serious head injuries and was originally transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital via ambulance, however, was later airlifted to Westchester Medical Center and last classified as critical but stable. Mr. Plaza and Ms. Ross were both uninjured in the crash.

Preliminary findings reveal the actions of the pedestrian to be the primary factor in the crash, and no charges have been filed against the vehicle operator. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the Pleasant Valley Fire Department and Mobile Life. The investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be released as it becomes available.
