Lauren Elise Kassirer

July 4, 1982-July 25, 2018 A lifelong New Yorker, Lauren spent her childhood years in Stormville and became a proud resident of Woodside, Queens in her later years. Lauren channeled her passion and extensive experience into her profession as a high school Science teacher for the New York City Department of Education.

A fierce advocate for Mother Earth and all living creatures, Lauren dedicated numerous projects and adventures to making the world a better place, especially protecting the voiceless; including turtles and manatees. A contagious laugh, bright sparkling eyes, and a beautiful spirit; she had a unique ability to capture the attention of all. Her charisma and determination to confront life’s challenges, take risks, push boundaries, and live life to the fullest, was truly remarkable. Lauren was an avid world traveler, who experienced life on six continents in dozens of countries.

A Lover of music, the beach, day-drinking, salsa dancing, stuffed animals, and laughter. Lauren grew up with and is survived by her brother, Jason Kassirer and her sister, Rebecca Kassirer. She also had far-reaching family connections that include other brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Hutt, Raffaele, Zimak, Bingham, and Kassirer families. She is survived by her father, Eli Kassirer, his wife, Tammy Raffaele, and by her mother, Cathleen Sadler and her husband, Jim Sadler. She was predeceased the previous month by her ninety-nine-year-old grandmother, Marie Kassirer.

Visiting hours are on Sunday, September 2, 2018, from 11-2pm at the Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main St., Beacon, NY, 12508. There will be a private ceremony for family and close friends at 2:30 pm. A scholarship fund is being set up at the Academy for American Studies (for info-ekassirer@aol.com
