Faso Highlights Distribution of Federal Funds for Projects Related to Battlefields in New York

Kinderhook, NY – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today highlighted the distribution of federal grant funding by the National Park Service for research, documentation, and planning projects related to battlefields in New York.

The funding comes from the American Battlefield Protection Program, which Rep. Faso has supported in the past in the federal appropriations process. The program is providing $50,000 in funding to the Fort Plain Museum in Montgomery County.

In December, Rep. Faso sent a letter of support to Empire State Development to include Fort Plain Museum’s application for a battlefield study of the Revolutionary War Battles of Stone Arabia and Klock’s Field in any proposal to the National Park Service.

“This was a small but important battle in the War for America’s Independence,” said Norm Bollen, Chairman of the Board at the Fort Plain Museum. “It had been part of an overall plan to depopulate the Mohawk Valley and retain the land here for British Loyalists. The plan never fully developed because a stubborn group of the valley’s residents stayed and fought off the enemy invasion. We would like to especially thank Congressman Faso for helping us bring this important project to fruition. This is an important first step in honoring those who gave their lives defending American liberty.”

“The project from Fort Plain is an exciting proposal to enshrine history from our nation’s founding struggle so that future generations may know the bravery and courage of Americans who fought in the revolution,” said Faso. “New York was home to many critical battles during the American Revolution and I’m excited to see more Revolutionary history highlighted.”
