State Police recover missing firearm in Columbia County

Chatham, New York – On February 24, 2018, the New York State Police from the New Lebanon barracks investigated a firearm reported as missing from a residence in the town of Chatham.
New Lebanon Troopers and Investigators from SP Livingston initiated an investigation throughout the weekend which resulted in the recovery of the firearm.
During the investigation, the State Police became aware of a social media rumor causing alarm amongst Chatham area residents. There was no evidence at any stage of the investigation of any credible threat to the Chatham Schools or students. The State Police, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and Chatham Central School officials have worked together closely sharing information, and monitoring any new developments.
The criminal matter is still under investigation and with assistance from the Columbia County Attorney’s Office, the State Police are working to resolve the incident in its entirety.
