Ghent man arrested for DWI following an injury motor vehicle crash

Austerlitz, New York – On February 24, 2018, the New York State Police from the New Lebanon barracks arrested William A. Dunkin II, age 59, of Ghent, for Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Troopers on patrol on Route 203 in the town of Austerlitz at approximately 10:15 p.m., found a two-car motor vehicle crash and immediately rendered aid. While assessing an entrapped victim, a fire ignited in the engine compartment. Fortunately, an off-duty Emergency Medical Technical arrived on scene and supported the neck of the victim. The Trooper was then able to utilize his patrol vehicle’s extinguisher and neutralize the fire.
Continued investigation of the incident found that Dunkin was under the influence of alcohol and he was subsequently arrested.
Dunkin was issued the appropriate universal traffic tickets returnable to the town of Austerlitz Court on March 7, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.
