Obituary for Jerry Christopher Shortt

It is with honor and sadness that we report the peaceful passing of Jerry Christopher Shortt. Jerry was born in Brooklyn NY on Nov 20, 1948 to the late John H. Shortt and Ruth Irene (Loson) Shortt. He is survived by his loving wife Marguerite (White), their devoted sons and daughter-in-laws, Andrew & Tara Shortt and Brendan & Lauren Shortt, five beautiful grandchildren Amanda, Dylan, Ryan, Emma, and Harper Shortt, his brothers Jim and Joe Shortt, and their respective wives Ellen and Ann, and many nieces and nephews. His brother John predeceased him.

Jerry grew up in St. Jeromes Parish, Brooklyn where he worked for Webber’s Candy/Soda Shop, Newkirk and Nostrand Aves, just as his brothers Joe and Jim did before him. At 17 he joined the US Army, serving his country honorably in Vietnam from 1967-1968. After his service Jerry and Marguerite met and married in August 1971. They settled in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. It was in Bay Ridge where Jerry would first join the VFW, an organization he would remain a member of for over 40 years. Jerry was hired by the New York Telephone Company in the 1970’s and remained with them for 33 years before his retirement. He and his family moved to Putnam Lake, NY in 1976 and have spent years since as a part of that wonderful community. After his retirement, Jerry joined the Red Hook Golf Club in Red Hook, NY and enjoyed many wonderful friendships and seasons there.

Jerry will be greatly missed by the friends and family who loved and cared for him. Visiting hours will be held at 1 Putnam Ave, Brewster, NY on Monday, Nov. 27, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
