Brewster, New York – On October 22, 2017, New York State Police from the Brewster barracks, partnered with the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office, arrested Celso N. Cantoral-Cruz, age 29, of Brewster, for Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Felony, Assault in the 1st Degree, a Class B Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On October 22, 2017 at approximately 1:35 a.m., members of the New York State Police, Village of Brewster Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported stabbing that occurred outside of El Pueblo Restaurant and Lounge on Main Street.  An investigation indicated that Cantoral-Cruz had stabbed the victim in the abdomen outside of El Pueblo Restaurant and fled the scene on foot.  With the assistance of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Cantoral-Cruz was located inside of his Main Street residence.

The victim, a 23-year-old Brewster resident, remains in critical condition at Danbury Hospital.

Cantoral-Cruz was arraigned before the Town of Southeast Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 property bond.
