Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a North Salem man on a felony charge of grand larceny.

On November 2, 2016 at approximately 7:50 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin responded to a report of a larceny at the Home Depot store located at 80 Independent Way in the Town of Southeast. The asset protection supervisor at that location reported that an employee who works at the returns desk had been taking items of merchandise that had been returned by customers and creating additional return transactions in order to acquire store credit for these items. It was determined that the employee had been perpetrating these acts during a four month period from July through October of this year, for a total of $3725.16. The employee was identified as Jacob C. Mattamana, 22, of 20 Lakeview Road, North Salem, New York. Mr. Mattamana was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a felony. The man was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the felony charge, the defendant could face up to seven years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000.00.
