John Shaughnessy of Millbrook is a new member of the SUNY New Paltz Honors Program

NEW PALTZ, NY (09/20/2016)– John Shaughnessy of Millbrook, N.Y. is among the new inductees of the SUNY New Paltz Honors Program for fall 2016.

The Honors Program seeks to develop and intensify skills from a conceptual point of view in a diverse multidisciplinary analytical environment that nurtures independent thinking, creativity, respect and social responsibility. The program promotes deep engagement with ideas through an innovative pedagogy and creative interdisciplinary curriculum.

New Paltz’s Honors Program is highly selective. Shaughnessy is one of approximately 230 honors students drawn from a student body totaling more than 7,000.

In order to maintain membership in the Honors Program, students are required to maintain a GPA of 3.3 or higher; to complete at least 40 hours of community service; and to present a thesis reflecting the skills and relationships they built over the course of their college career.
