Two Verplanck teens arrested for burglarizing Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society

Cortlandt, New York – New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks announce the arrest of two Verplanck teens following a detailed burglary investigation.  On July 18, 2016, State Police charged Miguel A. Reyes, 18 years old, of Verplanck, New York, with Burglary in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony.  On August 6, 2016, Benjaman W. Knowles, 18 years old, was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree and the violation of Unlawful Possession of Alcohol by a Person Under 21 years of age.

On July 16, 2016 at 5:00 a.m., the two men forcibly entered Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society, which is located at 155 Highland Avenue in Verplanck.  While inside, the suspects stole an undetermined amount of money and several cans of beer from the non-profit Italian American club.

On July 19, 2016, Reyes was arraigned in front of the Hon. Justice Daniel McCarthy in the Town of Cortlandt Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

On August 6, 2016, Knowles was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Justice Court before Honorable Justice Klein and released on his own recognizance.
