Pleasant Valley Man Charged in Connection with Local Burglaries

Jason D. Garrett

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and Town of Poughkeepsie Police report the arrest of Jason D. Garrett, age 21 of Pleasant Valley, in connection with two (2) commercial burglaries that occurred on 6/28/16.

During the early morning hours of 6/28/16 the Sheriff’s Office and Town of Poughkeepsie Police both investigated commercial burglaries—the Sheriff’s Office at the Village Restaurant in Pleasant Valley, and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at the Valero gas station on Main Street. Both businesses had been forcibly entered and nothing was taken from the restaurant, however the cash register and cigarettes had been taken from the gas station. Further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau led to Mr. Garrett being developed as a suspect in both burglaries, and on 7/6/16 he was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Office Detectives. The proceeds have not been recovered, and at this time Mr. Garrett has been charged with the following by the corresponding agencies:

  • Sheriff’s Office – Village Restaurant
    • Burglary 3rd Degree (Felony)
  • Town of Poughkeepsie Police – Valero station
    • Burglary 3rd Degree (Felony)
    • Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree (Felony)
    • Grand Larceny 4th Degree (Felony)

After being processed Mr. Garrett was arraigned before the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on all charges. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond for the Sheriff’s Office charges, and $20,000 cash/$40,000 bond for Town of Poughkeepsie charges.

As with any criminal case the charges described above are merely accusations and Mr. Garrett is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. More information may be released as it becomes available.
