MILLBROOK – Margaret Fettes, 90 of Millbrook,NY, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine,NY.
Born in Millbrook,NY on May 17, 1926, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Susan Good VanTassell. She was a graduate of Millbrook High School and SUNY at Delhi. Margaret was married to Robert Fettes who predeceased her on December 31, 1996.
Margaret served as a Dutchess County Legislator for District 26 for many years, representing the Towns of Union Vale, Washington and the Village of Millbrook. She served on numerous committees including Human Services, Legislative Judiciary, Educational Services, Community and Family Services, Environment Services, Public Works Public Safety and Budget and Finance. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Millbrook, the church choir since childhood and the church vestry.
Margaret was also an Avon representative in the area for many years. She had a long and dedicated service with Union Vale Fire Department and became a strong supporter of the needs of fire and EMS.
Margaret is survived by her 2 children, Wilbur L. Fettes of Millbrook and Patricia A. Vanaken and her partner Wayne Miller of Connelly,NY; grandchildren, Jason Vanaken and his wife Cody Farrell of Hurley,NY, Megan Walters and her partner Darin Smith of Saugerties,NY; great grandchildren, Liam Walters and Talon and Rowan Vanaken; her sister, Marion Briggs and sister in law, Joan VanTassell. She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry and Wilbur VanTassell.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15 from 4-8 pm at 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16 at 11 am from Grace Episcopal Church, Millbrook. Interment will follow in Verbank Cemetery.
