Wawarsing women arrested for Tampering

with Physical Evidence and Petit Larceny

PRESS RELEASE
State Police at Ellenville announce the arrest of Maria Martinez, age 55 of Wawarsing NY for Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Felony and Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor.
On March 30, 2016 a women reported her wallet being stolen while shopping at Walmart in Napanoch.  State Police at Ellenville reviewed the surveillance footage and were able to see an unknown woman removing the victim’s wallet from the shopping cart. As the investigation continued State Police at Ellenville were later able to identify the woman as Maria Martinez.  Further investigation revealed Maria Martinez removed the cash from the wallet and tossed it and it’s contents into a nearby stream to prevent further identification.
On May 12, 2016 Maria Martinez was arrested for Tampering with Physical Evidence and Petit Larceny.  Martinez was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Wawarsing Court on May 20, 2016 at 8:30am.
