Town of Saugerties man arrested for stealing and forging a relative’s checks.

PRESS RELEASE

On April 12, 2016, The New York State Police Highland BCI announce the arrest of 33 year old,  Nikolaus Gastio, of Saugerties, NY, for two counts of Forgery in the Second Degree (a class D felony) and one count of Petit Larceny (a class A misdemeanor).

On April 11, 2016, the New York State Police Highland BCI concluded an investigation into the theft and forgery of a Town of Lloyd resident’s personal bank checks.  Nikolaus Gastio was determined to have stolen the personal bank checks of the victim, who was a relative to Gastio, and then proceeded to forge and cash the checks at a bank in Dutchess County, NY.  Gastio was arrested and processed on two counts of Forgery 2nd and one count of Petit Larceny.

Gastio was arraigned in the Town of Lloyd Court by Judge Elia and subsequently remanded to Ulster County Jail on $2,000 cash/ $4,000 bond.  Gastio is due back in the Town of Lloyd Court on April 14, 2016 at 3pm.
