Mahopac Man Faces Drug Charge

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Mahopac man on a charge of drug possession.

On February 6, 2016, members of the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) were conducting area patrols in the Mahopac section of the Town of Carmel when they observed a male subject seated in a parked motor vehicle and who appeared to be ingesting a substance through a rolled up piece of paper in a method consistent with that of illegal drug use. The deputies made contact with the subject and determined that he was using a rolled up five dollar bill to “snort” a suspected controlled substance. An investigation revealed that the subject, identified as Michael Reo, 36, of Bloomer Road, Mahopac was in possession of quantities of heroin, cocaine and suboxone. The deputies arrested Mr. Reo and charged him with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. He was released in his own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court to answer the charge.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
