Dutchess Man Charged With Drug Possession

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrests of a Dutchess County man on a drug charge.

On February 5, 2016, at 9:46 a.m., Deputy Sheriff William Quick stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Route 9D in the Town of Philipstown. The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Anthony O’Neil Nash, Jr., 29, of 5 Wildwood Drive, Wappingers Falls, New York held a suspended license. The deputy arrested Mr. Nash and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. During the arrest process, the deputy determined that Mr. Nash was in possession of a quantity of heroin. The deputy additionally charged Mr. Nash with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and subsequently arraigned before Town of Putnam Valley Justice Gina Capone. The defendant was released in his own recognizance pending a February 10, 2016 appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
