South Carolina pair arrested for possessing a loaded handgun and marijuana

Woodbury, NY – On February 6, 2016, at approximately 3:20 a.m., State Police initiated a traffic stop on I-87 of a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta for speeding, 97 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.
Troopers approached the vehicle and began to interview the operator, who was later identified as Thomas Crudo, 22, of Conway, SC, at which time he took off leading Troopers on a pursuit from I-87 to State Route 17. At Exit 125 he lost control of his vehicle striking the guiderail. Both Crudo and his passenger, Alison M. Chapman, 21 of Myrtle Beach, SC, fled on foot. Chapman was immediately apprehended. Crudo was located later by the City of Middletown Police Department and turned over to the State Police.
Further investigation revealed a loaded .45 caliber pistol and approximately 147 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle. Both subjects were transported to SP Monroe and processed.
Crudo was charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree; a Class C Felony
- Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the 2nd; a Class E Felony
- Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 4th Degree; a Class A Misdemeanor
- Unlawful Possession of Marijuana; a Violation
Crudo was arraigned before the Town of Goshen Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
Chapman was charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree; a Class C Felony
- Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 4th Degree; a Class A Misdemeanor
- Unlawful Possession of Marijuana; a Violation
Chapman was arraigned before the Town of Goshen Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
