State of the County: Act Boldly
“While the state of our county is strong, if we Think Differently and Act Boldly, we can make it even stronger,” County Executive Marc Molinaro told the hundreds in attendance Wednesday evening as he presented his 2016 State of the County address at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House in the City of Poughkeepsie. “Tonight, I am setting ambitious goals for us to achieve within the next 10 years to help us define who we are and how we hope to live.”
County Executive Molinaro’s three goals for the Dutchess County over the next 10 years are:
• to make Dutchess the healthiest county in New York;
• to create the most comprehensive system of justice of any county in America;
• to ignite a “Revitalization Revolution,” partnering with local communities to promote growth that enhances the lives of all residents.
Among New York’s 62 counties, Dutchess ranks ninth in overall health outcomes and 10th in health factors, according to the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. County Executive Molinaro said within 10 years, Dutchess will rank first in both categories.
County Executive Molinaro announced he’ll present a proposal for the construction of a Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center to the Dutchess County Legislature on February 4th, the final step toward making the Dutchess model the nation’s leading comprehensive justice system.
As part of his “Revitalization Revolution” initiative, County Executive Molinaro called on local municipalities to streamline their application processes to promote growth throughout the county. He also reaffirmed Dutchess County’s commitment to partner with the City of Poughkeepsie to help the city once again rise to prominence.
“We seek, together, to address the challenges and solve the problems facing our government, our community and our residents,” County Executive Molinaro said. “Through partnership and collaboration, we have consolidated government – making it smaller, smarter and more effective – and by listening to those we serve and molding consensus, we created a government that is more open, more engaged and more transparent – one that strives to be as great as the people it serves.”
