State Police arrest Athens man for drug possession and multiple other charges

On 12/21/15, The New York State Police at Catskill arrested RICHARD L. WINCHESTER, age 39 , from Athens, NY for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, a class D felony, Resisting Arrest, a class A misdemeanor, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor, Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, a class A misdemeanor, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Driving With Ability Impaired by Drugs with a prior offense, a class E felony.
New York State Police and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police responded to a report of an unconscious male being dragged into a vehicle near the park on Union St in the Village of Athens. WINCHESTER was found in possession of cocaine, marihuana and hypodermic needles after being arrested for interfering with officials attempting to render medical assistance to the unconscious male. A female who was also involved at the scene, BRITTNEY WOOD, 28 of Athens, N.Y. was also found in possession of a small amount of cocaine. The unconscious male was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was being treated for a possible overdose.
WINCHESTER was arraigned in the Town of Athens Town Court before Hon. James Robinson Jr. who remanded WINCHESTER to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 secured bond. WOOD was issued an appearance ticket to also appear in the Town of Athens Court.
