COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES BODY FOUND ALONG TRAIN TRACKS

Germantown, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that the Sheriff’s Office received a call this morning at approximately 8:21am that a body was found next to the railroad tracks off Anchorage Road in the Town of Germantown.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Sheriff’s Office Investigators responded to the area and upon arrival, they were able to locate the scene. A deceased male was located just north of the Germantown Boat Launch on the east side of the tracks. The Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Technicians were called to the location to process the scene.

The investigation is currently in the preliminary stages. The cause of death has not been determined at this time. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to family members.

Rail service between Albany and New York City was not affected with any delays during the investigation. Trains were instructed by Amtrak officials to proceed through the Germantown area at a reduced rate of speed.

Assisting with the investigation was Columbia County Coroner James Bertram and the Amtrak Police.

Investigating on the scene for the Sheriff’s Office were Sheriff David Bartlett, Undersheriff John Davi, Captain John DeRocha, Senior Investigator William Foster, Investigators William Dunspaugh and Reagan Anderson, Sergeant Eli Fieser and Deputy Cindy Madison.
