LaGrange man charged with felony drug possession following welfare check

Wappinger, New York – On December 19, 2015, New York State Police from Wappinger charged 21-year-old Oday M. Nesheiwat, of LaGrange, New York, with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree, a Class D Felony, Forgery 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, an unclassified Misdemeanor.

Troopers were dispatched to conduct a welfare check on a driver who was observed sleeping behind the wheel of a 2005 Volvo that was stopped on Robinson Lane.  The driver of the vehicle, identified as Nesheiwat, was found to be impaired by drugs following a police investigation.  Nesheiwat was also found to unlawfully possess a large quantity of Xanax, a fake ID, and marihuana wax.

A State Police Drug Recognition Expert was used to evaluated Nesheiwat subsequent his arrest.

Nesheiwat was arraigned before the Town of Wappinger Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.  He is due back in the Town of Wappinger Court on December 23, 2015.
