PRESS RELEASE

An investigation by the New York State Police – SP Highland BCI, was initiated several months ago upon receiving a report from a victim who alleged that he had been defrauded out of thousands of dollars by Vincent Anastasio. Anastasio was alleged to have taken, over the course of several months, in excess of $8,000 in compensation for services that were never actually rendered and furthermore purported himself to be a retired police officer and a current private investigator with a reputable law firm based in New York City. Anastasio led said victim to believe that he was conducting an investigation into an alleged wrongful conviction of the victim’s brother, who was sentenced to life for murder back in the 1980’s. Investigation found that Anastasio took no such investigative actions and misrepresented himself and his affiliations in order to unlawfully obtain money from the victim.

Anastasio was arraigned before Judge Elia in the Town of Lloyd Court and subsequently remanded to Ulster County Jail on $2,500 cash / $5,000 bond and was schedule to appear in New Paltz Town Court on 10/27/15 at 5:30pm.
