PRESS RELEASE

New York State Troopers from Greenville, Orange County, arrested a Middletown man for stealing items from cars in the Town of Wawayanda early Wednesday morning. The Slate Hill area of the town has been the scene of numerous overnight larcenies from unlocked vehicles in the past few weeks. Troopers have been diligently patrolling the area as a result. At approximately 3:45am, two Troopers on patrol observed RAHMEL HILTON, 35 years old from Linden Ave, Middletown, lurking in front of a Post Rd residence while dressed in all black clothing. HILTON fled as the Troopers approached, leading them on a foot pursuit through back yards until he was captured. The Troopers subsequently recovered several items of property, including wallets and credit cards that had not yet been reported stolen. HILTON was charged with two counts of Felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th and two counts of Misdemeanor Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th. He was processed at the Greenville barracks, and arraigned in the Town of Wawayanda court. He was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of bail.

The New York State Police strongly recommends locking your house and car doors overnight to prevent such crimes of opportunity.
