Southeast Man Charged With DWAI Drugs

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Southeast man on a charge of DWAI drugs.

On August 31, 2015 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Matthew Monroe was dispatched to a report of a personal injury automobile accident on Route 312 in the Town of Southeast. The deputy determined that one of the involved drivers, identified as Joseph Defiore, 26, of 23 Garrity Boulevard, Town of Southeast had been driving while under the influence of a controlled substance. The deputy arrested Mr. Defiore and charged him with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and with Reckless Driving, misdemeanors. The defendant will be required to appear in the Town of Southeast Justice Court on September 22, 2015 to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
