Peekskill Man Charged With Criminal Contempt

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Peekskill man on a charge of criminal contempt.

On August 22, 2015 at approximately 4:15 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Joseph Sadowski was dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle at 14 Pleasant Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. Upon arrival, the deputy was met by the complainant who reported that there was a man in the basement of his house who “shouldn’t be there”. Upon investigation, the deputy located a man in the basement identified as Luis A. Rivera, 32, of 1025 Howard Street, Peekskill, New York. The deputy further encountered a female subject in the residence who stated that she had invited Mr. Rivera to the residence. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Rivera was the subject of an active order of protection issued by the City of Peekskill Justice Court that prohibited Mr. Rivera from having any contact with the female subject. The deputy arrested Mr. Rivera and charged him with Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
