PRESS RELEASE

On August 10, 2015 the New York State Police at Kingston investigated a motor vehicle accident on Glenford Wittenberg Road in the Town of Hurley.  At approximately 10:50 pm, a 2011 BMW operated by Paul Schiavo, aged 30 from Mount Tremper was traveling east on Glenford Wittenberg road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.  The vehicle traveled off the road, striking a guide rail and rock embankment before continuing on striking a propane tank and residence located at 173 Glenford Wittenberg Road.  The West Hurley Fire Department responded due to propane leaking from the damaged propane tank.  Additional Fire Departments from Woodstock, Olive, Phoenicia, Sawkill, Ulster Hose, Hurley and Centerville Cedar Grove responded due to the volume of propane involved.  The State Police were assisted at the scene by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department the Town of Hurley Building Inspector and Heritage Energy.  Mr. Schiavo was evaluated at the scene by Mobile Life Ambulance and declined further medical treatment.  The accident investigation is continuing.
