Two men arrested for Palenville burglary

On 07/22/15, New York State Police arrested ROBERT C. KNISELL, age 35 and TODD A. DEGROFF, age 32, both of Saugerties, NY.  KNISELL and DEGROFF were arrested after a home owner pulled into her private driveway and noticed someone inside her house. While she was calling 911, the perpetrators fled into a wooded area off of St 23A in Palenville. Responding State Police and Greene County Sheriff’s patrols utilized K-9 units from both agencies which resulted in a positive track and the recovery of proceeds of the burglary along their route. The track was lost when the subjects re-entered the roadway approximately one half mile away. About an hour and a half later, State Police located two subjects at an area swimming hole fitting the description of the subjects who fled the scene. They were subsequently found to be in possession of other items that were stolen from the residence. As a result of the investigation KNISELL and DEGROFF were both charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree, a class C Felony.  KNISELL was additionally charged with Unlawful possession of Marihuana after he was found in possession of a small amount of the drug.
Following the arrest, KNISELL and DEGROFF were arraigned before Judge William Wooten in the Town of Catskill Court and were remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail, $200,000 bond.
