Vehicle and Traffic Stop leads to a drug arrest of a Utica Man and Woman

PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police announce the arrests of William Grant, age 31, and Stephanie D. Mathis, age 26, both from Utica, New York. They were charged with two felonies, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree. They were additionally charged with the misdemeanor charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Mrs. Mathis was also charged with Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations.

On 6/30/2015 at approximately 5:19p.m. Troopers observed a 2011 Hyundai in the Town of Cornwall traveling northbound on the New York State Thruway. The vehicle was following too closely to another vehicle. Subsequent investigation revealed a significant quantity of crack, which led to the aforementioned charges being filed with the Town of Cornwall Court.

Mr. Grant and Mrs. Mathis were arraigned by the Town of New Windsor Court before Town Justice Richard Thorpe and remanded to the Orange County jail with no bail. They are scheduled to return to the Town of Cornwall Court at a later date.
