Southeast, New York – On May 9, 2015, New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested John R. Tarr, of Marlborough, New York, for Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Class E Felony.  Tarr was additionally charged with Petit Larceny, Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Misdemeanors.

Troopers were dispatched to the Shell Gas Station located on Danbury Road for a Larceny complaint.  Investigation revealed that Tarr removed scratch-off lottery tickets from the business’ lotto display and attempted to exit the store after he concealed the tickets in his pocket.

Tarr was placed under arrest and transported to the Brewster barracks.  He was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear before the Town of Southeast Court on May 19, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. and released from police custody.

Several hours after Tarr’s arrest, Troopers were again dispatched to the Shell Station as Tarr had returned despite being advised that he is not permitted to return to the store.  Employees observed Tarr retrieving an item from the garbage at that location before leaving the premise on foot. The item he retrieved from the trash was described as a box of cigarettes.

Troopers located Tarr a short distance from the gas station and placed him in custody for trespassing.  Prior to placing Tarr in custody for trespassing, investigating officers observed him drop a cigarette box and attempt to conceal it on the ground.

Following further investigation, Tarr was found to unlawfully possess Suboxone and Xanex.  He had placed the drugs in the gas station trash attempting to avoid additional criminal charges.

Tarr was arraigned before the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $750 cash bail or $2,500 bond.  He was scheduled to return to the Town of Southeast Court on May 12, 2015.
