Obituary, Evelyn M. Zimlinghaus

Evelyn M. Zimlinghaus, 94, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at her home in Dover Plains surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Zimlinghaus and her husband, Ernest, owned and operated Zimmy’s Service Station in Dover Plains for 27 years.

Born on November 21, 1929 in New Milford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Anna (Peterson) Espitee. She was a graduate of New Milford High School Class of 1947. On December 27, 1947 in New Milford, CT, she married Ernest Zimlinghaus who died on July 11, 1995.

In her youth, Mrs. Zimlinghaus was an outstanding basketball player and was active in her High School Drama Club. She was a member of the Dover-Wingdale Senior Citizens and a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains.

Mrs. Zimlinghaus is survived by five loving children: Edward Zimlinghaus and his wife, Michele, of Dover Plains; Paula M. Roberts and her husband, Anthony, of Chatham, NY; Diane Zimlinghaus of Dover Plains; Caroline Breitenbach and her husband, Karl, of Buchanan, NY and Georgette Wendover and her husband, Robert, of Waxhaw, NC. She was a beloved grandmother who is survived by 11 grandchildren: George, AJ, Lisa, Cassie, Josh, Justin, Megan, Bobby, Michael, Matthew and Kimberly and great grandmother to 18 great grandchildren: Tre, Amanda, Callie, Noah, Rachel, Ava, Jacob, Jonathan, Gage, Collin, Thomas, Herbert, RJ, Gabrianna, Garett, Alexis, Laura and Dahlia; and 12 great-great grandchildren, Attalie, Aiden, Melody, Liam, Lincoln, Indie, Carter, Blaine, Caden, Delilah, Noah, Navail and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by six sisters, four brothers, a daughter, Laura Mae Zimlinghaus and a great grandson, Jonah Zimlinghaus.

The family wishes to thank Hudson Valley Hospice and the Meals on Wheels Program for their compassion and kindness to their mother and grandmother.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 62 Mill Street, Dover Plains, NY with Rev. John F.X. Palatucci officiating. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist-St. Charles Borromeo Parish, 39 East Main Street, Pawling, NY 12564.
