Obituary, Brenda J. Wilkins

Brenda J. Wilkins, 82, a longtime resident of Wingdale, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mrs. Wilkins was a therapy aide at Wassaic Developmental Center in Wassaic, NY and later worked as a teacher’s aide at the Dover High School.

Born on August 14, 1941 in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Emma (Dillabaugh) Houghton. She was predeceased by her husband, Nathaniel Wilkins who died on December 8, 1998.

An avid and lifelong NY Yankees fan, she loved doing needlepoint and crocheting, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Wilkins is survived by three sons, Roy Wilkins and his wife, Sara, of East Fishkill, NY, Billy Wilkins and his wife, Kristin, of Washington, CT and Lawrence Wilkins, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Lyons Falls, NY and three daughters, Patricia Wilkins-Vacca and her husband, Robert, of Poughkeepsie, NY; Susan Wilkins of Pompton Lake, NJ and Joy Wasserman and her husband, William of Sellersburg, IN. She is also survived by a brother, Kurt Bryant of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Neil Sibley and Fred Sterling.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Graveside services and burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Valley View Cemetery, S. Nellie Hill Road, Dover Plains, NY with Rev. Thom Fiet officiating.
