Obituary, Shirley Florence Hagin Hentschel

Shirley Florence Hagin Hentschel, 86, passed away peacefully on February 26th, 2024, with her husband by her side, in Hudson, NY.

Shirley was born on August 23, 1937, in Ithaca, NY to Lawrence Clifford Hagin & Helen Mae (Kostenbauder) Smith.

In 1962, Shirley relocated to Dover Plains, NY, where she raised her children and enjoyed her time working at local businesses such as, The Foundation for Christian Living, The Dover National Bank, The Wassaic Developmental Center, and The Stop-N-Go in Wassaic. It was here that she met the love of her life, John Hentschel, whom she married on February 21st, 1981.

During their 43-year marriage they enjoyed traveling together. Shirley was a talented seamstress, knitter, and cook.

She retired from the Hudson Correctional Facility in Hudson, NY.

In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Daniel) Iuliano of Wingdale, NY, her son William (Ginger) Dutton of Amenia, NY, Stepdaughter Rose Hentschel of Claverack, NY, and Stepson Jack Hentschel of Gloversville, NY. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Christopher Dutton, Leslie Anne Mugrace, Andrea Reynolds, Kayla Gangloff, and Marc Smith, as well as 6 great grandchildren: Kennedy & Everly Reynolds, Darla Gangloff, and Norah, Everett, and Lydia Smith.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Lawrence Hagin.

Burial was March 1st, 2024, at Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson, NY.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date.
