Obituary, Scott D. Cromie

Scott D. Cromie, 64, a long-time resident of Pawling, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.

Born on July 10, 1959 in New Milford, CT to the late Edmund R. Cromie and Ruth D. White, he attended Pawling schools and went to work from there.  Scott was a “jack-of-all-trades” working as an auto mechanic, butcher, painter, and sheet rocker.  He was most often self-employed, but most recently he worked for Hudson Valley Plastics and Native Landscaping.

Scott liked to spend his spare time tending to his vegetable garden, listening to music, and fishing.  He loved cooking, canning his home-grown vegetables and making jelly for his family.  He was also a beekeeper and he enjoyed sharing the honey from his hives. He was a good soul who loved his family; he had a “heart of gold” and would do anything for his family, friends, and acquaintances.  He will be sorely missed.

Scott is survived by four siblings, Bruce Nikola, Kyle Hayden and husband John, Cheryl and husband Walter, and Michele Kelly and husband Dan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Mark and Ty.

A Celebration of Scott’s Life will be held at the Holmes United Methodist Church, 41 Holmes Road, Holmes, NY on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Pawling Resource Center and food pantry in Scott’s memory.

The family is extremely grateful to Cheryl and Walt Leverich who did so much for Scott, taking him to his many doctor’s appointments, shopping, and just being there for him whenever he needed them. They asked that you remember Scott in your prayers and think of him fondly.

Arrangements are under the direction of Horn & Thomes, Inc Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
