Obituary, Florence Distelhurst

Florence Distelhurst of Carmel, N.Y. passed away on Friday, September 29th, 2023 at Putnam Hospital; she was 85.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on November 14, 1937 to Anna (Cronin) Flynn & Thomas Flynn and attended St. John’s parochial school & graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx.

Florence married Joseph Distelhurst on October 5, 1957. She then went on to manage the offices of Dr. Palatucci for 40 years even after moving north to Mt. Vernon, Connecticut and then to Brewster. Florence was a Eucharistic Minister for her parish, Sacred Heart Church in Patterson, N.Y. Florence was well cherished for her work in providing communion at the local hospitals and nursing homes, as well as providing & offering rides to friends and neighbors who were no longer able to drive.

Florence had a strong faith & boundless generosity, touching everyone who met her, and formed a wide circle of close friends with her unselfish and giving nature. She loved to travel & socialize and was the light at every gathering.

She was predeceased by her parents Anna & Thomas as well as her siblings John Flynn, Anne Flynn Breslin and Thomas Flynn. Florence is survived by her sister Marilyn Flynn Croake of Long Island, N.Y. as well as numerous nieces & nephews who will forever hold her in their hearts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 11 AM at St. James the Apostle Church, 14 Glenida Avenue, Carmel, NY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Horn & Thomes, Inc Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
