Obituary, Anna May Torrance

Anna May Torrance, 88, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Putnam Hospital, Carmel, NY.

A 15-year resident of Pawling, Anna was born in Newburgh, NY on May 1, 1935 to the late Nicholas and Josephine (Evanko) Alfano. She grew up in Yonkers, working as a waitress in many area eating establishments including Morleys in Yonkers.

On November 5, 1955 she married David Torrance; he predeceased her on April 10, 1998.

Anna was an avid reader and enjoyed doing ceramics, drawing, and art. She was always joking around and loved cooking and baking for her family.

She is survived by her son David and his wife Cara of Dover; four daughters, Dawn Fernandez and husband Del of Wappingers Falls, Robin Gonzalez and husband John of Pawling, Kim DeLango, also of Pawling, and Anne Rooney and husband Kevin of Yonkers; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anna is predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, and her son-in-law Anthony DeLango who passed away December 28, 2022.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 16th at 9 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 14 Pine Drive, Pawling, NY, followed by entombment in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made in Anna’s name to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
