Obituary, Rosaleen Furey

Rosaleen Furey, 85, of Pawling, New York, passed away on August 22, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Born in Bray, Co Wicklow Ireland, Rosaleen, and her family soon moved to Pomeroy, Co. Tyrone Ireland where she and her seven siblings grew up.

She is predeceased by her parents, John, and Mary (nee Mullen) Casey, and her husband Connie of 56 years, along with sisters Mary Loughran, New Castle-Upon-Tyne England, and Kathleen Morici, Wanamassa, New Jersey, brothers Johnny Casey, Medina Australia and Pat Casey, Pomeroy Co. Tyrone Ireland and daughter-in-law Kim Furey, Lilburn, GA. May they Rest in Peace.

She leaves behind sisters Ann McGuire (Charlie) of Kingsville, Ontario Canada and Una Razumic, St. Catherine’s Ontario, Canada along with her brother Kevin Casey (Eileen) Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, Ireland.

Her children Nuala Donnelly (Michael), Conall and grandchildren Casey, Michael, Brianna (husband Zack) will miss her deeply as will her many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Rosaleen emigrated to the United States in 1961. She reunited with the love of her life, Connie and the two were married December 1, 1962, at St. Jerome’s Church in the Bronx. They lived in Inwood, New York before moving to Pawling, New York in 1975. This is where they would call home. The kettle was never cold on Hurds Corner Road enjoying the company of countless visitors from near and far.

Rosaleen raised her children then began work at The Guide in Mt. Kisco, New York in 1979 where she was employed for 25 years. After retirement she and Connie were snowbirds enjoying the sunshine of Stuart, Florida.

She was a Communicant and Catholic Daughter at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pawling, as well as an active member of the Emerald Association of Putnam County; honored as Emerald of the Year in 2008 along her husband Connie.

Rosaleen’s enduring legacy will be her unselfish generosity to all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. May she enjoy the peace she has so richly earned as she is reunited once again with her Connie.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 24th from 4pm to 8pm at Horn & Thomes, Inc Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, New York 12564.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 25th at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 39 East Main St., Pawling, New York 12564.

Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 1 East Main Street, Pawling, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rosaleen’s memory to the incredible team at Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY  12601.
