Obituary, James Dewain Jefferys

James Dewain Jefferys, 87, resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, with his family at his side.

 

Son of the late William H Jefferys II, he was born in Woodbury, NJ on May 12, 1936. He graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia and joined the US Navy in 1954, serving aboard the USS COLAHAN until he was honorably discharged in 1958.

He married his sweetheart Nola on July 7, 1984.

Jim was an electrical engineer and manager for IBM, working in Kingston, Poughkeepsie, and then in Brazil for 3 years.

While in Brazil he was able to fish the Amazon River, one of his favorite past-times.  He always enjoyed fishing the Ashokan Reservoir, Whaley Lake in Holmes, and boating on the Hudson River.  He enjoyed gardening, was a talented wood carver and enjoyed giving his creations away to family and friends.

He is survived by  his wife, Nola, his six children: James  Jefferys and wife Maria, Jennifer and husband Eric Neumann, Bill Jeffreys and wife Helena, Michael Jefferys and wife Eli, Stephanie and husband Tony Messina, and Heather and husband James Deblasi; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
