Obituary, Margaret Sylvia Gorwara

Margaret Sylvia Gorwara, 91, recently of Millbrook, NY, formerly of Pontypridd, Wales passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at The Fountains in Millbrook, NY. She was surrounded by loved ones and an outpouring of kindness and compassion in her final days. Born on August 10, 1931, in Treharris, Wales she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Mason) Swancott. Margaret came from humble beginnings and was determined to make her mark in the world. She trained as a registered nurse in Scotland followed by Midwifery training and practicing as a district nurse. In 1967 she immigrated with her family to the US and worked for many years as an obstetrics nurse in Massachusetts and California. She lovingly and meticulously brought many lives safely into this world.

Mom faced monumental challenges in this lifetime – with dignity and grace. Through it all, she never wavered in her Faith in the Lord and Jesus Christ. This was her everlasting source of strength.

Margaret Gorwara was extremely bright – always curious and interested to learn new things. She deeply enjoyed the fellowship she developed at Lyall Community Church in Millbrook where at 91 years of age she was a vibrant member of the choir often practicing hymns in her free time.

Margaret Gorwara loved her family immensely including many cousins nieces and nephews in the U.K., Canada, and the U.S. – and they loved her back. She painstakingly organized many large family reunions. She is survived by a son, Dr. Simon Gorwara, and his wife, Geeta, of Poughkeepsie, NY; a daughter, Dr. Anita Gorwara of Los Angeles, CA and a sister, Miriam Thomas of Nelson, Wales. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Reshma Mickiewicz, Rajiv Khanna, Sean Gorwara, Daniel and Sammy Dohad, and three great-grandchildren, Mason Mickiewicz, Fiona Khanna and Ryder Khanna.
